Hi, I am planning to do an MBA in retail management (or pgdm). Which university is the best for MBA in retail management? Anyone please help me
First time college applicant
Thanks for asking your question, “Which university is best for MBA in retail management?”
In my opinion, the question(s) should be “do I need an MBA for retail management?” and “which kind of MBA?” In the first question, I’m not sure you need an MBA to get into retail management (https://www.businessbecause.com/news/mba-careers/2532/what-mba-to-specialize-in-for-a-career-in-retail) Most retail store managers work themselves up through each department whether it is a large chain or smaller one. I also think that MBA’s in retail management is being publicized that it is a “shortcut” to get you into retail. I don’t think an MBA in retail management is a short cut.
My second question is which MBA if you do want to get one. A review of the site “Masters Portal” (http://www.mastersportal.eu/search/#q=di-244|lv-master,preparation&start=0&length=10&order=relevance&direction=desc) demonstrates a conundrum. There are thirty (30) but not all 30 have the words “retail management” because there so many more ways to get into retail management with a traditional MBA in general management that I feel may make you a stronger candidate than one that is narrow. Lastly, this “30” list shows that there are many different kinds of MBA’s that are being positioned in retail.
In summary, I would also recommend working in retail for 1-3 years before investing 60-80,000 USD for an MBA either online or in residence. I just think that an MBA in retail management is all that necessary and if you think about it, a general MBA might be better. In either situation. Few will be hired if you just have an MBA without experience.
