Job Description

The International Max Planck Research School “Primary Metabolism and Plant Growth” (IMPRS-PMPG) is a doctoral program in modern plant science at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology and the University of Potsdam, close to Berlin, the multicultural capital of Germany. Doctoral students in the IMPRS-PMPG pursue their research in the groups and departments of IMPRS faculty.

The Melbourne-Potsdam Ph.D. Program (MelPoPP) is a joint initiative of the University of Melbourne, Australia, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology, and the University of Potsdam, Germany. Doctoral students in this program have projects that are jointly supervised by group leaders in Melbourne and Potsdam and spend time in Germany and Australia.

We are recruiting for both programs via an integrated application and interview procedure.

How to Apply

Doctoral candidates and their research projects will start in the second half of 2021, between June and December.

We are looking for highly motivated students who can tackle scientific problems in modern plant science. Doctoral projects will focus on molecular, genomic, and systems-oriented approaches using Arabidopsis thaliana and other model plants. Our research combines molecular phenotyping (‘omics’) technologies, molecular genotyping (‘omics’) technologies, cutting-edge analytical techniques suiting-edge analytical techniques bioinformatics, and modeling.

We offer excellent research facilities, interdisciplinary scientific training, and a comprehensive complementary training program in an international environment. Our working language is English.

Highly qualified candidates holding or expecting to complete an MSc or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, Bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or related fields in 2021 are encouraged to apply.
